City of Radford is cutting mountain bike trails on the West End, near the interstate and New River. To get to them you turn as if you are going to the Sportsman. Just after you pass under the interstate, their is a road on your left. Turn up and drive until it ends at a gate. There is a short gravel ride before you get to the single tracks. Be cautious though, there is some private property and no riding during hunting season(s).
I have ridden some of the trails and they look very promising. About 10+ miles are marked but no where near that much has been cleared.
However, I got a hold of the person in charge of making the trails and they are looking for volunteers to help to build the trails. They schedule work days, trying for at least one weekend day a month. He is even up to loaning the tools out to me and/or our group if we want to ride and clear at the same time.
He also plans to get MBNA out in April to look at and perhaps “certify” the trails.
